Jute pendant lights : faites le bon choix

The jute pendant light brings natural light and raw texture to your space.

Jute pendant lights are a natural choice for those seeking authentic style and elegance in their interiors. Made from twisted or braided plant fibres, these pendants offer a unique texture that’s both soft and robust, gently diffusing light for a warm, ambient glow without darkening the room. Available in globe, cone, bell or disc shapes, with diameters from 25 to 60 cm, they’re ideal above a dining table or in a cosy reading nook. Their natural beige colour blends seamlessly with any style, from bohemian to Scandinavian, and their lightweight design makes them easy to install on most standard ceilings.

What styles and finishes are available in jute pendant lights?

Braided jute pendant light: Perfect for a handmade look, the tight braiding produces a softer light, ideal for bedrooms or living rooms. Models from 30 to 40 cm in diameter suit spaces of 10 to 15 m². The medium-weight jute fibre (around 350 to 450 g/m²) is durable yet lightweight.

Openwork jute pendant light: Versions with geometric or floral cut-outs create subtle shadow patterns on the walls. Choose a 50 cm diameter for dining rooms or open-plan areas. Openwork jute allows more light through, letting you use an LED bulb of 800 to 1200 lumens without glare.

Jute and metal pendant light: Pairing jute with a black or gold metal frame for a contemporary touch. These often more compact models (25 to 35 cm) work well in hallways or above kitchen islands. For a coordinated look, match with a wood veneer pendant or black metal accessories.

What height should you hang a jute pendant light?

The ideal height for a jute pendant light depends on its location and use. Above a table, leave 70 to 90 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade to ensure good light dispersion without glare. In a lounge or bedroom, 210 cm from the floor lets you move around comfortably and enjoy ambient lighting. For ceilings over 2.8 m, choose an adjustable cable of 120 to 150 cm for flexible installation.

For dining rooms, a jute pendant of 40 to 50 cm diameter is perfect for lighting a 160 to 200 cm table. In kitchens, go for a more compact pendant, hung 80 cm above a worktop. Recommended LED wattage is 8 to 15 W, or 700 to 1500 lumens, for a warm effect without the fibre overheating.

For a pure, natural feel, jute pendant lights pair beautifully with a natural pendant or a straw pendant, especially alongside raw materials.

How do you care for and style jute pendant lights?

Jute pendants need minimal care: regular dusting with a feather duster or soft brush will keep the fibres looking their best. Avoid excess moisture, as jute is sensitive to water. In steamy rooms like the kitchen, choose a moisture-resistant model or hang the light away from cooking areas.

For a coordinated look, combine your jute pendant with other natural textures—think sisal rugs, wicker baskets or rattan mirrors. In bohemian rooms, match with linen cushions and neutral curtains. For a modern finish, pair with a designer pendant or matt black metal fittings.

Jute pendant lights work equally well in bright living rooms, peaceful bedrooms or welcoming hallways. Their natural finish, versatility and easy upkeep make them a lasting choice for any interior aiming for authenticity.
