Art deco wall lights : faites le bon choix

A striking graphic beam on your wall is the hallmark of a well-chosen art deco wall light.

Art deco wall lights are a bold lighting choice, structuring light and adding rhythm to your space. Inspired by the 1920s and 1930s, they stand out with crisp geometric shapes, luxurious materials and refined finishes. Expect features like brushed brass, opal glass, polished chrome, or marble, often embellished with fan, chevron or sunray motifs. Sizes range from compact models (15 to 25 cm wide), ideal for hallways or as a bedside light, to statement pieces of 40 cm and more—perfect for living rooms or entrances. More than just decorative, an art deco wall light delivers precise, usually indirect, lighting to enhance architectural details without glare.

What materials and finishes for an art deco wall light?

Brass: Brushed or polished brass is a staple of the art deco look, delivering golden warmth and durability. Choose a brass art deco wall light for a sophisticated feel, especially in entertaining spaces. A 20 to 30 cm tall model with a 5 to 8 W LED bulb (400 to 700 lumens) is ideal for elegant accent lighting.

Opal glass: Frosted or opal glass diffuses a gentle, even glow—perfect for relaxing spaces. Art deco opal glass wall lights, often framed with metal, range from 18 to 35 cm in diameter and are ideal for bedrooms or hallways. Pair with a colour temperature of 2700 to 3000 K for warm, welcoming light.

Polished chrome: For a more contemporary take, polished chrome underlines the graphic lines of art deco wall lighting. This finish works beautifully with modern or minimalist interiors. Chrome models, often angular or fan-shaped, are typically installed at 1.6 m from the floor for a gallery effect.

Marble: Less common but highly sought-after, marble introduces a luxurious, tactile touch. An art deco marble wall light from 25 to 40 cm fits well in a bathroom (IP44 rated) or hallway, especially in pairs to frame a mirror.

For more coordinated style, the art deco pendant light collection offers matching suspensions, perfect for creating a harmonious look.

Where to install an art deco wall light and what brightness to choose?

The placement and brightness depend on its purpose. As a bedside wall light, an art deco model of 15 to 25 cm with a 3 to 5 W LED bulb (250 to 400 lumens) is ideal for reading without glare. In a hallway or entrance, choose models 20 to 35 cm, spaced every 2 to 2.5 metres for even illumination. In lounges, a 30 to 40 cm art deco wall light with an 8 to 12 W bulb (700 to 1000 lumens) will highlight artwork or alcoves.

The ideal mounting height is between 1.6 m and 1.8 m from the floor, depending on ceiling height. In bathrooms, check the rating: an IP44 model is required within 60 cm of a water source. For a cosy ambience, choose a colour temperature of 2700 K; for something livelier, 3000 to 3500 K works well.

How to match an art deco wall light with your decor?

The art deco look pairs especially well with quality materials and deep hues. Match a brass art deco wall light with bevelled mirrors, walnut furniture, or velvet fabrics. For a graphic effect, repeat elements: two art deco wall lights framing a mirror or sideboard create a strong focal point.

In dining rooms, combine an opal glass art deco wall light with a coordinating ceiling pendant for even, structured light. Rounded or fan-shaped styles work easily in both classic and modern interiors. If you love layering looks, alternate art deco wall lights with glass wall lights for a play on textures and reflections.

Cleaning is easy: dust regularly with a soft cloth, avoid abrasive cleaners on brass or marble, and check fixings annually. For a coherent effect, coordinate the colour temperature of all lighting sources in the room.
