Outdoor table and floor lamps : faites le bon choix

As evening falls, outdoor table and floor lamps become essential for extending both the style and comfort of your outdoor spaces.

These terrace lamps are more than just lights—they shape the atmosphere, increase safety and enhance your outdoor decor. Whether you're dining under a pergola, relaxing on a lounger or enjoying drinks with friends, there's a lamp to suit every occasion: choose from outdoor floor lamps, portable table lamps, pendant lights or wall lights. Rechargeable portable models offer maximum flexibility, while wired versions deliver consistent power. Always check the IP rating (IP44, IP65): for uncovered terraces, an IP65 lamp is best for resisting rain and dust. Light output ranges from 200 to 800 lumens, creating everything from a cosy glow to functional brightness, and colour temperatures from 2200K (warm white, intimate mood) to 4000K (neutral white, clearer light). Compact lamps (25-40 cm high) are ideal for tables, while tall floor lamps (up to 150 cm) light up pathways or define seating areas.

Which outdoor lamp to choose for your preferred mood?

Table lamps: Perfect for accent lighting on a side table or low wall, outdoor table lamps come in rechargeable LED or mains versions. A 30 cm model, 10-15 cm in diameter, usually gives off 250 to 400 lumens. Look for a non-slip base and at least IP54 for resistance to damp nights.

Outdoor floor lamps: These help structure your space and provide ambient or supplementary lighting. Models from 120 to 160 cm with a weighted base are ideal for marking out a dining or reading area. 500 to 800 lumens will light up 8 to 12 m². Solar versions are convenient but less powerful than wired ones.

Outdoor pendant lights: Hung under a pergola or canopy, these provide even lighting. A 25-40 cm diameter suits tables for 4-8 people. Choose an LED bulb of 6 to 12W (500 to 1000 lumens equivalent) and a minimum IP44 rating. For more hanging options, explore our outdoor pendant lights collection.

Outdoor wall lights: Fitted to a wall or post, outdoor wall lights brighten up walkways or highlight facades. Compact models (20-30 cm high) emit 300 to 600 lumens. For direct exposure to weather, go for IP65. For more choices, see our outdoor wall lights range.

What brightness and colour temperature for outdoor lamps?

The right brightness depends on your area and mood. For a table for 4, 300 to 500 lumens is enough for a gentle glow. To safely light stairs or paths, opt for 600 to 800 lumens. Dimmable lamps let you adjust the brightness—soft for dinner, bright for games. For colour temperature, warm white (2200 to 2700K) creates a cosy vibe, while neutral white (3500 to 4000K) is more practical. RGB models give you colourful light effects for festive evenings.

If your terrace is exposed to rain or wind, always check the IP rating: IP44 is fine for covered areas, IP65 for direct exposure. Solar terrace lamps are energy-efficient and simple to install, though their run-time depends on sunlight (6-10 hours' lighting after a day of charging). For advanced wireless options, browse our solar outdoor lamps range.

How to coordinate terrace lamps with the rest of your outdoor lighting?

Combining several lighting sources avoids dark corners and lets you tailor the atmosphere. Pair table lamps with outdoor spotlights to mark out pathways or highlight planting. A spotlight with 3-5W (300 to 500 lumens) creates depth by illuminating a flowerbed or wall. For a harmonious look, keep the colour temperature consistent across your terrace.

Materials matter for durability and style: powder-coated aluminium is more resistant to corrosion than untreated steel. Polycarbonate and tempered glass finishes are easy to clean and tolerate temperature changes. For a warmer feel, choose synthetic rattan or bamboo—just ensure UV protection for lasting quality.

For a contemporary space, choose clean lines and understated colours (black, anthracite, white). For a more classic look, vintage metal or aged brass outdoor lanterns are ideal. Browse a wide selection in our outdoor lanterns collection.

In summary, select your terrace lamp according to the size to be lit, the right IP rating, brightness and your preferred style. Well-chosen outdoor lighting enhances your terrace and allows you to enjoy longer, safer evenings outdoors.
